    2000 Ford F-350 SD w/4R100. Pulled fault code P0705, indicating faulty transmission range sensor. Replaced digital transmission range sensor (aka TRS) in 10 minutes with Dorman p/n 511-101 via Amazon Prime. Exceptional value, fast shipping, direct bolt-on replacement. Highly recommended.

    Difficulty:
    Easy

    Tools:
    8mm wrench or equivalent.

    Procedure:
    1) ENGINE OFF, SET PARKING BRAKE, BLOCK WHEELS (you will be under the vehicle).
    2) Place transmission shifter in Neutral.
    3) Locate transmission range sensor on the outer left (driver) side of the transmission.
    4) Disconnect the wiring harness by depressing the small tab on the plug and pulling gently
    5) Remove the two 8mm attaching bolts and slide the TRS off of the manual input shaft
    6) Adjust the new TRS by turning the center ring until the line on the center ring lines up with the line on the TRS body marked Neutral.
    7) Slide the new TRS on to the manual input shaft, install the two 8mm bolts.
    8) Reconnect the wiring harness.
    9) Place transmission shifter in Park.

    Works excellent. This solved an ongoing problem I was having with the column shifter feeling like it was binding/ dragging when selecting any tranny position. The last few years I''ve probably replaced 5 shifter tubes. I even replaced the transmission/ shifter cable. This was the last piece of the puzzle(of course) and now the shifter drops into PRND12 with just a bit of gravity. Night and day difference. I believe the plastic bushings wear out and bind when rotating on the transmission selector linkage on the transmission. It used to be really bad when things would "heat" up.

    Perfect fit for a 2003 Ford f350 with the 4R100 trans. This part corrected the hard gear selection issue that was problematic with this truck. Gear selection is smooth and accurate now. I believe the issue with the old assembly was corrosion of the metal shaft this sits on. The metal had actually expanded due to corrosion and I think it put excess outward pressure on the plastic bushing making it difficult to spin in the assembly. I tried to pry the old one off but the bushing stayed and the housing broke away. I was then able to get the bushing off no problem. Then I used a needle scaler to get the heavy corrosion off and a pick to clean the top and bottom grooves so the new assembly could slide on.

    There were some annoying issues out of the box. After removing my old sensor, I discover the metal spacers are in the wrong slots (as in the photo here) for my F150 4x4. No problem I thought, I gently wiggled out the spacer and put it in the upper slot in line with the other to fit my transmission. Connector fit perfectly and at first glance as I started to re-assemble to the transmission, I noticed the spacers still didn''t look right to me. It turns out not only were they in the wrong slots, but double the thickness of the OEM unit and could not be mounted as is. I ended up breaking the spacers out of my old unit and then gently installing them in place of the crap spacers put in this one while in ROC where it was made. Look at the photos closely and compare to yours. Save your old switch just in case this one does not fit perfectly out of the box. A 15 minute fix turned into over an hour, and still didn''t make my back up lights work.

The bar for the shift linkage is actually mounted behind this sensor, so there is no 15mm nut to remove. Just remove the two 8mm bolts holding this on and then this should come right off. (FYI, I had to pry mine off with a large flathead screwdriver a little bit). Shifts like a brand new truck and now starts in both Park and Neutral. Can''t beat the price. (P.S. It helps to have a drop light as well)

Carefull on first few shifts you don''t yank the lever right off the column because you are so used to yarding on it to get it to move. It will move like new again now.

My old one was caked on to the point I had to snap it off and then carefully cut the old plastic part that mates with the metal transmission spline off before installing the new one. Even with plenty of brake parts cleaner, etc.
